Things are finally changing on the lake and the bite will definitely get better. The water clearing is a big factor, especially for what I am doing which is buzzing a spinnerbait making a wake. The water temp is creeping up and is in the mid 70’s in some places. And the wind was perfect today for spinnerbait.
I have to confess there is no doubt there are some other ways to catch them but it this technique has been part of my fishing life for 50 years. And while of course I will do more bass fishing after I leave time to take advantage of the bite which is coming right now. Before giving it up at 1:30 it was an easy dozen and missed a few and jumped 2 off so not bad for a short trip.
This is the size I was beginning to wonder about.
Points with grass/cover with a breeze was the best spot but even boated 2 in the last cove without a breath of wind. But one thing consistent about the bite, most still come right on the bank as soon as the bait moves. And several jumped it when if flipped out of some stuff. It is precise work to put it right on the bank and have it moving and making a wake. The watercolor has depressed the waking bite as the bigger fish usually come off the bank, they just have to be able to see it and react. Trust me time are changing, and with it a big one is coming.
No giants today but it was a good bite.
If anything was learned today it is topwater is coming. It will require some precise casting with all the stuff in the water, but it is doable. You can use a frog, and that bite will get better as the water clears. Another bait that would definitely get the bites is a pink trick worm. The watercolor is just right for that and it is a fun way to fish. Just keep it right where you can see it and when it disappears set the hook. And if it continues to clear and you are feeling brave a spook or a Bang O Lure will also catch them.
My guess is it is about to get good. Though the lake is coming down there is still plenty of stuff in the water and as long as it is there the fish will use it, just a matter of timing. Which really means get up and get out there early. While I caught one here and there all day, the morning bite was the best. I can honestly say it was getting worrisome, but it really seems the fish and the conditions are coming together. And though the water is on a slow decline it will be while before all the cover in the lake is gone. So if you fish Coleto good luck, they are there to be caught.

Next up will be Wednesday. The weather looks perfect and there are several places I want to add to the program. And while spinnerbait will be the primary lure of choice a look in the topwater box will give me some inspiration. So keep stopping in and thanks for reading my stuff.
Good Luck and Tight Lines
