FISH CATCHING TRAVEL

Glad to have the full moon waning.  The full moon never helps the day time fishing.  Looking back on Monday as soon as it went down they quit.  So need to be sure to get up early and be on the water at daylight and get what I can in case they do the same thing.  But if I get lucky it will be cloudy all day and the thunderstorms will wait until my feet are up and I have a cold one in my hand.

Weather

98/76. Partly sunny with a 40% chance of rain and an afternoon thunderstorm in spots, will feel like 107 degrees.   Wind  E 7 – 14 mph.

Lake Level

Monday 97.95 msl.   Today   97.90 msl.   (Down just a hair.  Just maybe it will stabilize.)

Bite Time

Minor  9:53 am to 10:53 am.

With last call at 9:00 a.m. this is the time to head out.

It was deja vu all over again this morning, at least as far as numbers and bite time were concerned.  Like it has been it was dead calm and the water temp was up to as high as 94 degrees.  There are 3 places with fish, so decided to fish them in different order from Monday.

Catching bass on the spoon and Pearl Knockin’ Tail is just plain fun.

So here is what I have learned so far.  Fish the bank with the spoon and Pearl Knockin Tail first, and as it has been 4 or 5 jumped on the first place, and I missed several.  Next, turn around and re-fish it with a buzzbait.  Which added a couple more.  Though the buzzbait gets a lot less bites, the fish are a bigger.  And the best bites have come when it literally lands in nothing, and they jump it.  Love dragging them through the stuff.

She freakin’ blasted a buzzbait!

I made sure to get the good places fished by 9:00.  The next 2 places, the sun was out without a breath of wind, did not produce more than 3 or 4 each.  First up a couple on the spoon and Knockin Tail, then re-fished them both with a buzzbait, catching at least 1 more.  Then it was time to fish a couple of places before they quit.  Oops to late.

Though no real big fish, the lake does have a bunch of these.

As a rule they are close to good water, a point, and there is grass.  It seems the long stretches do not have fish, where they are, they are, and I got a look at that this morning.  When I got to the 3rd place the shad had pulled out of the grass, and the bass were chasing them off the bank.  I still caught 3 or 4 there, but they definitely went with the bait.  Most I am catching look pretty well fed and it bodes well for the future of the lake.

After fishing 2 more  similar banks without even a hint I decided to put the 9:00 thing to a test.  It was about 10:00 so I headed down to where I have been catching them trolling, put out a couple of shad crankbaits and headed to the ramp.  Surprisingly I did not boat a fish, and that was where they always are.  It sure seems like when the sun pops out with no wind or clouds they call it a day.  If you are willing to get up at least you can catch a few, an improvement over what we had.  Plus when you pull that spoon and Knockin Tail over a bush and one eats it is nothing but fun.

I just got my tires rotated and if there were other products of that quality the world would be a better place.  I use 10 ply Michelin AT tires, and the guy just told me they are over 5 years old, have 95,000 miles on them, and I should be good to go for another 25 – 50,000 miles!  Regular rotation, rotation, and did I say rotation?  They have all the traction I need without the irritating road noise.  We have put Michelins on our cars for 30 years and they are worth every penny.  Think about it, when was the last time your tires lasted over 6 years which includes hundreds of miles on rough mountain and desert roads?

Be sure when you get your new hunting and fishing license you confirm it is exactly what you need.  Then read the book and remind yourself of the rules on what you do in the outdoors.  No sense in getting a ticket because you forgot something.  I read the whole part of the book on fishing so I have no excuse.  And here is what I found that I just did not know:  Page 39.  If you buy bait and bring it to the lake you have to have a receipt that identifies the source of the bait.  Who knew?

The fishing is definitely worth getting up for, but you better put it them in the boat because if conditions stay like they have been, sunny and calm, they will quit early.  I have always loved watching them eat, and both methods are producing so it is in my wheel house.  We have some rain coming so not sure when I will be back on the water but the Boss wants a dry run in her kayak so know I will be on some water.  So keep stopping in and thanks for reading my stuff.
